Course Overview

Starting Point

The inspiring journey begins near Elgin Street in downtown Ottawa. In the early morning, runners lining up at the starting line are greeted by iconic Ottawa buildings such as the Parliament Buildings and the National Gallery, creating a sense of exhilaration. The first few miles are relatively flat, allowing runners to find their pace easily.

Sights along the way

The Ottawa Marathon course captivates runners with its diverse scenery and warm support.

・Early stages:This section along the Rideau Canal offers beautiful scenery, also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Along the canal, runners can enjoy Ottawa’s rich nature and historic buildings simultaneously. There are also many spectators along the road, offering warm cheers.

・Middle stages:Crossing into Gatineau, Quebec, and over the Ottawa River provides a unique cross-border experience. The cityscape of Gatineau and the view of Ottawa across the Ottawa River are breathtaking. Afterward, runners return to Ottawa.

・Late stages:Returning to downtown Ottawa, runners pass landmarks that evoke Canada’s history and culture, such as the National War Memorial and the Supreme Court of Canada. The support from spectators becomes even more enthusiastic towards the end, providing strong encouragement to runners.

・Elevation difference:The elevation difference of the entire course is relatively flat, but there are several gentle ups and downs. In particular, bridges crossing the Ottawa River and small hills in the city center can be challenging. The elevation gain is approximately 120m, and the cumulative elevation descent is also approximately 120m. The highest point is approximately 70m, and the lowest point is approximately 40m.

・Weather:The weather in late May in Ottawa, when the event is held, is often ideal for running. The average temperature is 15-20°C, and it is usually pleasant, but sudden changes in weather can occur, so it is important to check in advance.
