The Mexico City Marathon is a historic event that began in 1983 and is held every August. It is known as a very tough race for runners as it is held at an altitude of 2,240m.
The course passes through Mexico City’s major tourist attractions and includes World Heritage sites. It is a large-scale event in which approximately 30,000 runners from all over the world participate, and the course has many ups and downs, with the uphill stretch from the 15km to 20km mark being a major challenge for runners.
As it is a race at high altitude, it is important to acclimatize to the altitude, manage your physical condition, and take measures against the heat in advance.
The Mexico City Marathon is an explosion of runners’ passion in the sky city at an altitude of 2,240m. Since the first event in 1983, it has been held every year from late August to early September, attracting runners from all over the world.
・Starting point:Estadio Olimpico Universitario. This historic site, used as the main stadium for the 1968 Mexico Olympics, is the starting point for the runners’ new challenge.
Immediately after the start, the runners head to Venida de los Insurgentes. The race begins with a sense of elation as they run through Mexico City’s main thoroughfares.
・10km:Soumaya Museum is an impressive art museum with a unique exterior. The futuristic building gives runners new inspiration.
・20km:Statue of the Angel of Independence, an iconic monument of Mexico. The statue of the Angel of Independence gives runners courage and strength.
・30km:The Palace of Arts, boasting classical beauty. Runners head for the finish line while feeling the history.
・Finish point:Alameda Central Park, one of the largest squares in the world. The finish point is near Hemicyclo a Juarez. Runners cut the finish tape filled with emotion and a sense of accomplishment.

・Elevation difference:Approximately 65m. There are many ups and downs, and the difficult area from 15km to 20km is particularly difficult with continuous uphill slopes.
・Climate:From late August to early September in Mexico City, the daytime temperature is high and the sun is strong, so it is essential to take measures against the heat.
