The Durban International Marathon is an international marathon event that brings together runners from all over the world along the beautiful coastline of South Africa.
The flat course allows runners from beginners to veterans to enjoy running at their own pace. The course features vibrant cityscapes and a beautiful contrast between the blue sky and the Indian Ocean, making the running even more exciting.

Course Overview

・Starting point:The starting point of the Durban International Marathon is the old Durban International Airport. In a lively atmosphere, runners from all over the world start running at the same time. At this moment, everyone will renew their determination to challenge their own potential and create unforgettable memories.

・17km point:Run through the Inkosi-Albert-Luthuli Freeway and take the Margaret Mnqadi exit to the coastline. The contrast between the blue sky and the Indian Ocean will be burned into your eyes.

・30km point:Run around the promenade while looking at the lively scene of Durban Port. From this point, the course becomes slightly uphill and a new challenge begins.

・Turnaround point:Run 10km along the Ruth First Highway, then turn around at Virginia Airport. At the turnaround point, you can see runners heading back to the starting point again, and the sound of cheering each other on can be heard.

・Finish point:For the last 2km, you go around the Durban Country Club Golf Course and run through Masabalala Yengwa Avenue. The finish point is People’s Park adjacent to Moses Mabhida Stadium. Aim for the finish line while receiving enthusiastic cheers from the roadside.

Elevation difference and climate

・Elevation difference:The course is mostly flat, but there is a slight difference in elevation around the 30km point. However, those who are training for running should be able to overcome this level of ups and downs without any problems.

・Climate:Durban has a warm climate throughout the year, but it is especially comfortable during the marathon period [Event period]. However, the sun in Africa is strong, so sunburn prevention is essential.
