First held in 1982, the Belfast City Marathon is Northern Ireland’s signature sporting event, beloved by local residents and runners from around the world. Over the years, despite a backdrop of political change and social transformation, the marathon has grown to bring people together and symbolize peace and vitality.
It is the first and only marathon in Northern Ireland to join the World Athletics Label Road Race Series and is an AIMS certified race. There are events for all levels, including the marathon run, wheelchair races, team relay and 8 mile walk.
The Belfast City Marathon starts at the Stormont Estate, where the Northern Ireland Parliament is located. The majestic buildings and vast grounds will lift the spirits of runners. Start a new challenge with thousands of other runners while experiencing history.
The Belfast City Marathon course is designed to allow runners to fully experience the charm of the city, passing through four areas: North, South, East and West.
・Starting point:The starting point of the Belfast City Marathon is the Stormont Estate, where the Northern Ireland Parliament is located. The majestic buildings and vast grounds are a fitting stage for the spectacular start of the event. A new challenge begins in the political center.
・City Hall:Located in the heart of Belfast, City Hall captivates runners with its magnificent appearance.
・Queen’s University Belfast:Run through the vibrant campus with the buildings of the good old days as your backdrop.
・Lagan River:The section running along the River Lagan that flows through Belfast is a great opportunity to relax while feeling the fresh breeze.
・Finish point:The finish point is the lush Olmo Park. The moment you cross the finish line, you will feel the joy of your efforts being rewarded and the motivation to reach new goals.
The Belfast City Marathon course is relatively flat, but there are slight undulations.
The weather is also changeable, and it may rain during the spring race, so be sure to prepare warm clothing and rain gear to deal with changing weather.
